Each gm cream contains methyl salicylate BP 150 mg & menthol BP 100 mg.

Description

Methyl salicylate is a salicylic acid derivative. Salicylates inhibit cyclooxygenase, thereby reducing the formation of prostaglandins, and cause platelet dysfunction. Methyl salicylate is used topically as a counter-irritant. Upon application, it is absorbed through the skin and is applied for the relief of pain in rheumatic conditions and painful muscle or joints.

Menthol dilates the blood vessels causing a sensation of coldness, followed by an analgesic effect. Menthol also acts as a penetration enhancer, increasing the penetration of drugs when applied on the skin, to give a faster onset of action.

Indication

Alivio is indicated cream is used to relieve pain of muscle aches and sprains, rheumatism, arthritis, backache, bursitis and leg cramps.

Dose And Administration

Adults including elder: Apply to the affected area 2-3 times daily, maximum 4 times in a day.

Side Effects

a) Common: Generally well tolerated but may cause skin irritation at the application site.

b) Rare: Redness or irritation may occur, especially in persons with sensitive skin.

Warning & Precaution

Keep away from eyes, mucous membranes, wounds or damaged skin. If skin irritation develops discontinue use of this cream. Do not swallow. It should not be used immediately after bath.
